Writing is as essential as water is to a thirsty man.

I have been reflecting on the idea of becoming a writer for many years now. From a young age, we all learn the fundamental skills of reading and writing in school, which serve as the building blocks of communication. Throughout our lives, we uncover the profound ability to express ourselves through stories and written words. While some individuals develop impressive skills and earn income from their craft, others may achieve remarkable fame or wealth through their literary achievements. I believe that literature possesses a unique power to transform lives and influence the world in innumerable ways.

As a child, I found joy in reciting poems during school events, and this early exposure ignited a deep passion for poetry within me. Music also played a significant role in my upbringing, as my father often sang at home, filling our space with the rhythm and emotion of his voice. I can confidently say that music and poetry flow through my veins; they are an essential part of who I am.

However, my true literary journey began when I took the bold step of self-publishing my memoir, *Born Again in America: A Nation Where Dreams Still Come True*. Amazon.com: Born Again in America: A Nation Where Dreams Still Come True eBook : carballo, mory: Kindle Store

This endeavor was not without its challenges; I faced countless drafts, each one more painful and emotional than the last, as I delved into the depths of my soul to share my story. Despite pouring my heart into this project, I still find it difficult to label myself as a writer, as self-doubt often clouds my confidence.

After that initial experience, I decided to explore writing short stories. This process opened my eyes to the transformative power of words;

I began to perceive written language as essential as water is to a thirsty man laboring under the sun in a dry field. Each stroke of the pen, each click of the keyboard, felt vital, as if I was uncovering a wellspring of creativity that flows within me. This creativity seems to have been intertwined with my existence since birth, manifesting itself magically and naturally in my writing.

Through this journey, I discovered a profound sense of freedom in writing—a liberation that allows me to express my innermost thoughts and emotions without restraint. It has become a space where I can reflect, explore, and connect.

What excites me most is the realization that my words have the potential to resonate with others, perhaps guiding them to find their own paths to freedom through storytelling and self-expression. Ultimately, writing has become not only a personal pursuit but also a means to inspire and uplift others, fostering a sense of community through the shared experiences of our lives.

CREATIVE WRITER

When I first made the decision to launch my memoir, *Born Again in America: A Nation Where Dreams Come True*, Amazon.com: Born Again in America: A Nation Where Dreams Still Come True eBook : carballo, mory: Kindle Store

I found myself grappling with my identity as a writer. The thought of labeling myself as a writer felt daunting. I believed that to truly earn that title, I needed to possess multiple degrees or some form of specialized knowledge that seemed nearly unattainable. Compounding this doubt was the fact that English is not my first language. I moved to the United States at the age of 27, driven by a desire for new opportunities and experiences. To adapt, I enrolled in community college, immersing myself in my studies and adapting to a new culture.

Despite the difficulties I faced with the English language—its intricacies and complexities—I discovered a profound love for words and expression. I began to experiment with my writing, creating a variety of pieces, including short stories such as *Little Dreamer*

Little Dreamer: Carballo, Mory: 9798322497509: Amazon.com: Books

and a collection of poems written in Spanish. Para Ti Madre Querida (Spanish Edition): Carballo, Mory: Amazon.com: Books

Through this creative journey, I came to a significant realization: I was not just a writer; I was a creative writer.

This understanding blossomed each time I encountered feelings of loneliness or emotional pain. In those sorrowful moments when my spirit felt dim, writing became my refuge. It was as if the act of writing had a transformative power over my emotions. I would begin to write about anything that came to mind, or my fingers would instinctively dance across the keyboard, releasing my thoughts into the digital realm. In those precious moments, I found that my spirit could slow down, allowing me to process my feelings.

The pain, isolation, and loneliness slowly faded as I entered a realm of discovery—a world where words, ideas, and emotions intertwined, creating a tapestry of experiences and insights that brought me solace and understanding.

Writing became not just a form of expression but a lifeline that connected me to myself and the world around me.

**Fairy Tale**

**Fairy Tale**

Someone once told me …that one of the most remarkable qualities about you is how deeply you embraced your father's dreams for your future. A "dream" is a fragile concept, easily able to fade away and disappear if not nurtured. Yet you took those aspirations to heart, transformed them into your own ambitions, and held tightly to them throughout your journey. This commitment to your father's dreams became a pivotal part of your identity.

After I self-published my memoir, "Born Again in America: A Nation Where Dreams Still Come True," I wanted to honor not only my father but also every individual out there who dares to dream and possesses the faith and courage to chase those dreams.

I love you, Papa. You have always inspired me to dream big and to believe wholeheartedly in the promise of the American Dream, regardless of whether it resembles a fairy tale or not. Your stories about America, with its beautiful imperfections and boundless opportunities, have become a cherished part of my life. They remind me of the resilience inherent in pursuing one's dreams, encouraging me to never give up, no matter the challenges I face. I will carry those lessons with me forever as I continue to pursue my own dreams.

To America

When I was a little girl growing up in Cuba, a vibrant but small island in the Caribbean just 90 miles away from the United States of America, I was deeply influenced by the stories my father shared. He was my hero and my greatest inspiration, and his tales about America filled my imagination with hope and dreams. He spoke of a land filled with opportunities, freedom, and the promise of a better life. As a child, I envisioned a future where I could escape the constraints of my surroundings and embrace the American dream.

Little did I know that at the age of 27, I would find the courage to leave my homeland. I made the difficult decision to leave Cuba illegally, much like a rebellious teenager sneaking out of the house to explore the world. I felt an intense yearning for something new, something different—an opportunity to reinvent myself. I was acutely aware that all my dreams, my aspirations for a fresh start, and my desire for a new life were tantalizingly close, just across those 90 miles of ocean.

However, after spending 15 years in America, I began to confront a harsh reality. I realized that America did not extend the love and acceptance I had so fervently hoped for. Instead, I found myself facing the same rejection and oppression that I had once experienced in Cuba. It felt as though America had reduced my dreams to merely a quest for its green card, neglecting the emotional and cultural connection I held for this land. I had come seeking the paradise my father had described—a place of freedom and opportunity—only to discover a reflection of my own struggles.

As I grappled with my place in this new country, I felt a profound disconnect. I struggled to understand why America, a land I had idealized, didn’t seem to understand me in return. Yet, as I navigated my way through its complexities, I began to recognize that America, too, has its own pain, struggles, and insecurities. I realized that my feelings toward America were shifting; what I once thought was disdain transformed into a deeper understanding and connection.

Despite the challenges, I came to recognize that America is a part of who I am. I love you, America. You are woven into my spirit, coursing through my blood.

You embody both the light I seek and the darkness I confront daily. In this intricate dance of love and challenge, I’ve come to accept that while America may not always love me back in the way I had envisioned, it remains an integral part of my identity and existence. I truly love YOU America.

TO VOTE OR NOT TO VOTE

Countdown to Election Day: Only 8 days remain.

As a Cuban American, I understand what it means to feel unheard—the voice that truly matters. In my memoir, *Born Again in America: A Nation Where Dreams Still Come True*, I share my journey from Cuba to America in search of the American Dream. Now more than ever, we need to remain strong, believing that America is still a place where dreams are realized. America is a land of freedom and equality, a place for unity regardless of how we look.

America welcomes anyone who sees its potential, much like President Kennedy once said: "Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country."

Cuenta regresiva para el día de las elecciones: solo quedan 8 días.

Como cubanoamericana, entiendo lo que significa sentirse ignorada, la voz que realmente importa. En mis memorias, *Born Again in America: A Nation Where Dreams Still Come True*, comparto mi viaje desde Cuba a Estados Unidos en busca del sueño americano.

"To vote or not to vote."

As a Cuban American, I feel a deep sense of responsibility to emphasize the significance of elections as more than just a political event. Having been born and raised in Cuba, a nation oppressed by dictatorship for sixty years, I understand the true value of democratic processes.

My father, my mentor, was the sole individual who enlightened me about democracy and painted a picture of America as a land of opportunity, where human beings like me can pursue our dreams.

Despite the obstacles we might be facing, this country grants us the liberty to openly and genuinely express our faith and seek divine guidance for the betterment of America and the entire world.

Personal Journey

Personal Journey

Please take a moment and reflect on your journey. If you, like me, sometimes feel like you don't belong anywhere, then it's time to reflect on your journey.

Writing my memoir and self-publishing "Born Again in America" was more than putting simple words on paper; it reflected self-discovery. Even though the book brings you my journey from Cuba to America in search of the American dream, it's also a reminder to Americans, the younger generation, and a child who wants to be anything they can possibly dream. It's a reminder that we are in the right place at the right time because as long as you believe that there is something more significant than the challenges you might face, as long as you think that everything is possible for those who work hard, take risks, and give their whole heart into everything, then and only then will you conquer your dreams.

And yes, this is still a nation where dreams come true for those like you and me who refuse to believe differently.

My father taught me to think in this place, in my dreams, and unintentionally, to dream big and, above all, to know that there is a God who will never leave me, nor will leave you if you call on His name.

I want you to close your eyes and know that your journey is about to take a turn for the best.
