Before and after I wrote a MEMOIR
For those of us who love the art of writing memoirs, the process can be both thrilling and daunting. As we begin to put pen to paper, we find ourselves lost in a sea of memories and emotions, wondering which moments to capture and which to let go. But as we write, something magical happens. Our memories begin to take shape, and we start to see our lives in a whole new light. By the time we finish our memoirs, we are different people - wiser, more self-aware, and perhaps even a little braver. For in the act of writing our stories, we have not only preserved our past, but we have also created a new future for ourselves.

Memoir Writing Reflection
As an individual who has authored and self-published a memoir, the decision to embark on this journey was not without its share of contemplation. The process of writing a memoir presents a unique dichotomy of rewards and obstacles. The daunting nature of meticulously revisiting past experiences and documenting them for public consumption can be a formidable challenge for any writer.
However, amidst the challenges lies a hidden gem of reward. The act of penning down one's life story has the potential to unearth undiscovered facets of the self. It is this transformative power that renders the memoir-writing experience truly fulfilling. The journey of self-discovery that unfolds during the writing process is, in itself, the ultimate measure of success.
In essence, writing a memoir is not merely about recounting past events but about exploring the depths of one's own identity. It is a testament to the resilience and introspection that defines the human experience, making it a profound and worthwhile endeavor for those willing to undertake the challenge.
Hey there! Would you mind sharing with me if you go by a pen name?
My birth name is Moraima Carballo, but I have chosen to adopt a pen name, Mory Carballo, for various reasons. One of the main reasons for this decision was to make it easier for people to pronounce my name correctly. I have often found that people have trouble pronouncing my birth name, and it can be frustrating to constantly correct them. Therefore, I decided to choose a pen name that was simpler and more easily recognizable. This way, people can easily identify me and my work without any confusion or mispronunciation.

Memoir- Memories
We learned from each other, so if you've ever considered writing, I encourage you to write a memoir because everyone has a story to tell about their lives.
Why immigrants should write a Memoir.
When it comes to writing a memoir, it's important to understand that it's much more than just putting words on paper. A memoir is a personal account of one's life experiences, thoughts, and feelings. It requires a deep level of introspection, honesty, and vulnerability to truly capture the essence of one's life and convey it to others. Writing a memoir involves delving into one's memories, exploring one's emotions, and reflecting on one's life journey. It's a process that can be both rewarding and challenging, but ultimately, it allows one to leave an enduring legacy that can inspire and enlighten others.
A memoir is a literary genre that consists of a nonfiction narrative written by an author who shares their personal experiences, reflections, and memories. Typically, a memoir is an introspective account of the author's life, often focusing on a particular period, event, or theme. It can be seen as a form of autobiography, but with a more subjective and emotional approach, as the author shares their thoughts, feelings, and perceptions. The purpose of a memoir is to convey a deeper understanding of the author's life and to offer insights and lessons that readers can relate to and learn from.
"It's always painful when you're writing memoirs because you've got to go through the dark places, but it gives you a chance to find out the person you really are, not the person you thought you were." ~ Neil Simon
Writing a memoir is a valuable tool for immigrants to preserve their unique cultural experiences and perspectives. Immigrants have a wealth of knowledge and experiences that can be shared with others, and writing a memoir is an excellent way to do so. A memoir can help immigrants document their journey, struggles, and triumphs in a new country. It can also help them explore their identity and culture in a new context, and provide a way for future generations to understand their family history and heritage. Overall, writing a memoir is a powerful way for immigrants to share their stories and leave a lasting legacy.
"There ain't nothing that breaks up homes, country and nations like somebody publishing their memoirs" ~ Will Rogers

"Born Again in America" proved to be a captivating memoir that immediately drew me in. Meeting the author at our local library added a personal touch to the experience. The memoir details the author's journey from Cuba to America, escaping communism to fulfill her father's dream. Sharing the same cities as the author, the story resonated with me, reflecting the challenges my own family faced. The author's determination, struggle, and ultimate success in earning a degree and crafting her life story make this memoir a truly uplifting and relatable read. It has inspired in me a hope to one day mirror that level of determination.

Never give up on your dreams.
When I first published "Born Again in America," Memoir. I knew I had much to learn about becoming a writer. A year later, I had the opportunity to celebrate my hard work at my first book signing, which turned out to be the best experience of my life. I had thought the signing was only about selling books, but it was so much more than that. I met the most wonderful people who inspired me and gave me hope.
I want to credit the photographer, Julie Ann Bakker, who captured the event beautifully, and my publicist, Aby Davidson, who made the book signing possible at the Art Ovation Hotel, Autograph Collection.
That day, I met some fantastic people who I will never forget. My father's family was there, honoring my father's love for his family in general.
My father was the most loving man on earth; it was heartwarming to see him being celebrated by everyone present.
The experience taught me never to give up on my dreams and to keep moving forward.
The Frustration that dwelled within us…
The decision to write a book came from a place of frustration that dwelled within me. I was grappling with numerous questions, doubts, and fears that seemed to have no answers. However, as I poured my thoughts onto paper and wrote draft after draft, I discovered a wealth of knowledge I had never imagined. Eventually, I became a self-published author, and the feeling was nothing short of a dream come true. I was proud of myself and all the titles I had earned.
However, as time passed, I began questioning my goals. Deep down inside, I knew that my heart desired to help my family in Cuba by buying a house for my mother and supporting my sisters.
I reached out to God in prayer, asking for divine intervention. To my surprise, God's response came in unexpected ways. Instead of allowing me to sell books, He sent me problems that came with money and attention. Through these challenges, God taught me the value of money and what matters in life. Moreover, I learned that my mother and sisters didn't need my money specifically.
What They need is my unwavering faith and belief that one day, my actions would bless generations of my family.
