To America
When I was a little girl growing up in Cuba, a vibrant but small island in the Caribbean just 90 miles away from the United States of America, I was deeply influenced by the stories my father shared. He was my hero and my greatest inspiration, and his tales about America filled my imagination with hope and dreams. He spoke of a land filled with opportunities, freedom, and the promise of a better life. As a child, I envisioned a future where I could escape the constraints of my surroundings and embrace the American dream.
Little did I know that at the age of 27, I would find the courage to leave my homeland. I made the difficult decision to leave Cuba illegally, much like a rebellious teenager sneaking out of the house to explore the world. I felt an intense yearning for something new, something different—an opportunity to reinvent myself. I was acutely aware that all my dreams, my aspirations for a fresh start, and my desire for a new life were tantalizingly close, just across those 90 miles of ocean.
However, after spending 15 years in America, I began to confront a harsh reality. I realized that America did not extend the love and acceptance I had so fervently hoped for. Instead, I found myself facing the same rejection and oppression that I had once experienced in Cuba. It felt as though America had reduced my dreams to merely a quest for its green card, neglecting the emotional and cultural connection I held for this land. I had come seeking the paradise my father had described—a place of freedom and opportunity—only to discover a reflection of my own struggles.
As I grappled with my place in this new country, I felt a profound disconnect. I struggled to understand why America, a land I had idealized, didn’t seem to understand me in return. Yet, as I navigated my way through its complexities, I began to recognize that America, too, has its own pain, struggles, and insecurities. I realized that my feelings toward America were shifting; what I once thought was disdain transformed into a deeper understanding and connection.
Despite the challenges, I came to recognize that America is a part of who I am. I love you, America. You are woven into my spirit, coursing through my blood.
You embody both the light I seek and the darkness I confront daily. In this intricate dance of love and challenge, I’ve come to accept that while America may not always love me back in the way I had envisioned, it remains an integral part of my identity and existence. I truly love YOU America.
I s time to move on
It’s time to embark on a new journey of moving on—not merely in body, but deeply in spirit and, above all, in our emotions. Let us lift our gaze to the vast expanse of the sky, a canvas of possibilities and hope. In this moment, let gratitude wash over us; not just because the timing feels right, but because it is often during our darkest hours that we need to look up and truly acknowledge the brilliance above. The sky, with its shimmering stars and radiant sun, serves as a reminder of the light waiting for us, even in the most trying times.
Today is all about letting my mind be free.
I never expected that writing could offer such an exhilarating sense of freedom. When I immerse myself in the process of writing, I find that my thoughts flow more freely, and I don’t get bogged down by the rules of grammar or structure. Instead, I focus on expressing my ideas and emotions, which allows me to connect with my inner self in a way that feels liberating. This experience transforms writing into a personal journey where creativity takes precedence over perfection.
TO VOTE OR NOT TO VOTE
Countdown to Election Day: Only 8 days remain.
As a Cuban American, I understand what it means to feel unheard—the voice that truly matters. In my memoir, *Born Again in America: A Nation Where Dreams Still Come True*, I share my journey from Cuba to America in search of the American Dream. Now more than ever, we need to remain strong, believing that America is still a place where dreams are realized. America is a land of freedom and equality, a place for unity regardless of how we look.
America welcomes anyone who sees its potential, much like President Kennedy once said: "Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country."
Cuenta regresiva para el día de las elecciones: solo quedan 8 días.
Como cubanoamericana, entiendo lo que significa sentirse ignorada, la voz que realmente importa. En mis memorias, *Born Again in America: A Nation Where Dreams Still Come True*, comparto mi viaje desde Cuba a Estados Unidos en busca del sueño americano.

TO VOTE OR NOT TO VOTE
I want to extend an invitation to everyone to join me in a new countdown that I've decided to start. This countdown will run until November 5th. As a Cuban American, I feel a deep sense of responsibility to view the upcoming election not just from a political standpoint, but as a promise of freedom for our community. I believe that every vote counts and has the potential to shape our future, and I encourage everyone to take part in this important democratic process. Let's make our voices heard and contribute to building a better future for all.
"To vote or not to vote."
As a Cuban American, I feel a deep sense of responsibility to emphasize the significance of elections as more than just a political event. Having been born and raised in Cuba, a nation oppressed by dictatorship for sixty years, I understand the true value of democratic processes.
My father, my mentor, was the sole individual who enlightened me about democracy and painted a picture of America as a land of opportunity, where human beings like me can pursue our dreams.
Despite the obstacles we might be facing, this country grants us the liberty to openly and genuinely express our faith and seek divine guidance for the betterment of America and the entire world.
Personal Journey
Personal Journey
Please take a moment and reflect on your journey. If you, like me, sometimes feel like you don't belong anywhere, then it's time to reflect on your journey.
Writing my memoir and self-publishing "Born Again in America" was more than putting simple words on paper; it reflected self-discovery. Even though the book brings you my journey from Cuba to America in search of the American dream, it's also a reminder to Americans, the younger generation, and a child who wants to be anything they can possibly dream. It's a reminder that we are in the right place at the right time because as long as you believe that there is something more significant than the challenges you might face, as long as you think that everything is possible for those who work hard, take risks, and give their whole heart into everything, then and only then will you conquer your dreams.
And yes, this is still a nation where dreams come true for those like you and me who refuse to believe differently.
My father taught me to think in this place, in my dreams, and unintentionally, to dream big and, above all, to know that there is a God who will never leave me, nor will leave you if you call on His name.
I want you to close your eyes and know that your journey is about to take a turn for the best.
A journey driven by faith that goes beyond mere ambition.
When I penned and published my book, "Born Again in America,"Amazon.com: Born Again in America: A Nation Where Dreams Still Come True eBook : carballo, mory: Kindle Store I chose to open the memoir with a chapter involving a doorbell.
To some, a doorbell is merely a functional object, but to others, it symbolizes hope.
I vividly recall a childhood memory of my father arriving home with a mysterious box when I was about 7 years old.
As a curious young girl, I eagerly anticipated uncovering its contents, only to discover that it held a doorbell. Little did I know, this doorbell held significant meaning for my father, as it symbolized his aspirations for a future home.
Over the years, this doorbell evolved from a simple object into a profound symbol of hope that has accompanied me throughout my life. This emotional memory marked the beginning of a journey driven by faith that goes beyond mere ambition.
