As another year comes to an end, I find myself reflecting on how unfair life can feel. There’s that common phrase, the one everyone seems to be waiting for: “Everything happens for a reason.” But sometimes, those words feel empty in the face of real struggles.
This post isn’t for just anyone. It’s for you—the one who always takes the time to read my blog, the one who tries to understand what’s going on in my mind, even when things are confusing. You’re there every day, staring back at me from the mirror, waiting for me to give in, to make the same mistake that so many others have. Maybe you’re hoping I’ll give up, that I’ll lose this game we call life.
But I’ve got news for you. Listen closely, you in the mirror: get ready, because we both know better than to give up now. No matter how hard things get, we’re not quitting. Not today.
Submissive or fearful
Many people assume that a woman who remains quiet or avoids confrontation with her husband in public settings—such as family gatherings or other social activities —is submissive or fearful. While there are certainly cases where this may be accurate, it’s essential to recognize that a thoughtful woman might choose to address her husband directly when the situation truly demands it. This confrontation can take different forms; it may involve raising her voice passionately during a heated debate to emphasize her point or using well-articulated language to convey her frustrations. Interestingly, such expressions of discontent often manifest in the privacy of their home, where both partners feel safer to voice their concerns without the scrutiny of an audience. In these intimate settings, discussions can be more candid, allowing for deeper exploration of feelings and issues that may not surface in public.
It's important to be cautious about having these discussions in front of others; some individuals might take a strange pleasure in witnessing interpersonal conflicts, deriving entertainment from the drama rather than understanding the complexities involved. By choosing to confront issues privately, a couple can navigate their relationship dynamics constructively, fostering healthy communication that isn’t influenced by external judgment.
As the year draws to a close…
As the year draws to a close, people experience it in different ways. For some, it marks the end of a season filled with memories, while for others, it simply feels like just another day or another month. This time of year can be special or romantic, filled with celebrations and reflections on what has transpired.
I want to encourage you to explore the world of reading, particularly memoirs. Personally, I find a deep sense of connection in these narratives. Each memoir allows me to step into the lives of others, as if I'm engaging in a heartfelt conversation with them. I often feel the complexities of their experiences—whether it’s the profound pain of loss, the struggle with isolation, or the sheer joy of pivotal moments in their lives. These stories not only entertain but also offer valuable insights into the human condition, helping us to empathize with and understand one another on a deeper level.
"Born Again In America" is a memoir that I penned three years ago, reflecting on my transformative journey as a self-published author. In this book, I invite readers to explore the intricate themes of resilience and perseverance, delving into the profound power of love in its many manifestations. This exploration is not confined to romantic love; instead, it embraces a deeper, unconditional love that transcends the conventional gestures of affection, such as kisses and hugs.
Throughout my narrative, I share a mosaic of personal stories and experiences that illuminate the strength found in various connections—be it the unwavering support of familial bonds, the loyalty of friendships forged through shared struggles, or the unexpected kindness of strangers encountered along my path. Each anecdote serves to remind us that love can be a guiding force, capable of helping us navigate life’s challenges, fostering hope when times are tough, and inspiring our personal growth in profound ways.
Through this memoir, I aim to resonate with anyone who has faced adversity, inspiring them to recognize and celebrate the love that surrounds us, often in the most unexpected places.
The spirit of gratitude and reflection.
I understand how many people feel about the holidays; they can be pretty uncomfortable for some. Take Thanksgiving, for example. As an immigrant,
I found Thanksgiving to be a completely new experience. When I attended college, I delved into the rich traditions and significance of this holiday. Now that my daughter is nine and studying history, I've gained even deeper insights into its meaning.
Thanksgiving in America is becoming increasingly complex, as many have forgotten its historical context. It’s essential to recognize that this holiday embodies a spirit of gratitude and reflection, reminding us of the diverse stories that shape our nation.
Ultimately, the act of giving thanks is a universal celebration shared by people around the world, transcending cultural boundaries and uniting us in appreciation.
Thanksgiving is an annual holiday in the United States that celebrates gratitude and the harvest, with roots tracing back to a 1621 feast shared between the Pilgrims and Native Americans.
Evolution of the Holiday
Seek out the light.
I finally understood why I have the ability—or perhaps the gift—to pull myself out of the darkest places I have encountered.
This realization struck me as I reflected on my upbringing, which was steeped in shadows and challenges. Growing up in an environment so often in darkness has given me a unique perspective; I intimately know what those dark places look and feel like, both literally and metaphorically.
You can interpret this as a metaphorical outlook or as a deeper truth about my experiences. The darkness has bestowed upon me invaluable lessons, teaching me the significance of balance between despair and hope, between shadows and light. I've learned to navigate through life's challenges, recognizing that while darkness can be oppressive, it also cultivates a deep appreciation for the moments of brightness we encounter.
As the saying goes, we come to value the light so much more after enduring prolonged periods in the dark. That appreciation fuels my journey, driving me to seek out the light even in the most trying circumstances.
I hope you find the same balance in both.

Alcohol can be a topic that makes some people uncomfortable due to its potential for misuse and the social stigma surrounding it. However, even from our most challenging experiences, there are valuable lessons to be learned.
I don’t know if you’ve ever witnessed the intricate process of making moonshine or have had the chance to taste it, but I had the unique opportunity to assist my father in this endeavor. Growing up in a rural area, I remember the excitement of gathering ingredients like sugar, watching him carefully measure and mix them, and then distilling the mixture in an old still tucked away in our garage. The smell of the fermenting mash filled the air, and I learned about patience and precision during each step of the process.
After the moonshine was completed, I had the chance to taste this homemade liquor—a rite of passage for many in our community. It wasn’t just about the drink itself; it was the experience of sharing it with friends and family that created lasting memories. Additionally, I learned about the world of entrepreneurship as I helped my father sell our moonshine discreetly at local gatherings.
For some, this might not seem enjoyable or responsible, but for me, it was about the invaluable lessons in hard work, resourcefulness, and the spirit of entrepreneurship. These experiences with my father shaped my understanding of business from a very young age and instilled in me skills that I carry with me today.
I genuinely believed I was rich.
I don't know if this has ever happened to you, but when I was growing up, I genuinely believed I was rich.
I don't know if you've ever experienced something similar, but during my childhood, I sincerely believed I was rich. It’s a curious phenomenon; I think this might happen to many of us at some point in our lives, where our imaginations inflate our circumstances.

A solid foundation is not only essential in the world of construction.
The foundation may often be overlooked, but it is the most vital part of any building. It provides essential support and stability for the structure above, reminding us that without a solid base, we risk sinking, tilting, or even collapsing over time.
. A well-designed foundation must be anchored deep into the ground to resist shifting soil and withstand environmental forces like earthquakes and heavy winds. Without such a solid foundation, a building is at significant risk of sinking unevenly, tilting dangerously, or even collapsing entirely over time, compromising not only its integrity but also the safety of its occupants.
In Chapter Two of my memoir, *Born Again in America*, I delve into the profound significance of foundations in our lives. I vividly recall the day my father took us to a property where only a solitary foundation lay, solid yet bare against the backdrop of the sky. He promised us that one day, our dream house would rise from that very spot, a promise filled with hope and possibility. Although that house was never built, the experience left an indelible mark on my life. I came to understand that I could build my own aspirations upon that sturdy groundwork. From that moment on, I learned to dream expansively and to envision myself conquering the formidable challenges that lay ahead.
Recently, my nine-year-old daughter asked me, "Mom, what does your name mean?"

I hadn't truly pondered the meaning of my name until I was writing my memoir.

I knew the answer, but encouraged her to discover it herself. She found that my name, Moraima, means
"beautiful as the blueberry tree" in Latin, a reminder of the beauty and uniqueness we all carry within us.

Have you ever thought about those storytellers who make you believe in a world beyond your understanding?
I never considered myself much of a storyteller, but as I reflect on my childhood, filled with the warmth of my father's presence, I realize how profoundly those moments shaped me. It all makes sense now as I connect the threads of those vivid stories to my own journey.
Not long ago, a story my father used to tell came to mind. It was about a man whose tractor got stuck in the mud. When some of his friends insisted him to call for help to get out, the man confidently replied,
"This is a Ford; a Fordson Major—it will get out of here."
That story, along with others about America and the concept of the American Dream, represents my memories of faith and belief. Today, I am truly grateful for those storytellers.
Trying something new can be intimidating and lead to self-doubt.
As a self-published author, I’m learning this journey not just for myself but for my daughter, showing her that she can achieve her dreams. I want to build a foundation that leads her to a better path.
Motherhood, whether embarked upon early or later in life, comes with its uncertainties. Parenting is full of surprises and challenges, and it can be tough to care for yourself while meeting your newborn's needs. There will be moments of confidence and times of doubt.
It’s crucial to embrace both the joys and difficulties, as they foster growth as a parent. Ultimately, motherhood is about continuous learning, and the love and effort we put in matter most.
I recommend the movie "The Wild Robot," which explores themes of adaptation, friendship, technology, and the importance of community and empathy. My favorite character is Fink, a fox whose relationship with Roz symbolizes the transformative power of kindness and highlights cooperation, showing that even a solitary animal can learn to trust and respect others.

Confronting the past.
Revisiting the past can elicit a variety of emotional responses. For some individuals, the idea of looking back is deeply unsettling, as it may bring forth painful memories and unresolved issues that they would prefer to forget. Conversely, others may find this exploration enlightening, offering insights that can foster personal growth and understanding.
The question arises: Is delving into the past a constructive approach to ensuring we do not repeat our past mistakes? Reflecting on previous experiences can serve as a crucial learning opportunity, allowing individuals to recognize patterns in their behavior and decisions.
However, it's important to acknowledge that confronting the past often comes with its own set of challenges. This journey can bring about feelings of heaviness, revealing truths we may have buried deep down. We may uncover regrets, losses, or disappointments that we had hoped to leave behind.
On the other hand, for some, revisiting the past can be a path to healing. It provides a chance to process emotions and experiences fully, potentially leading to closure and a stronger sense of self. Ultimately, each person's relationship with their past is unique, shaped by their individual experiences and perspectives.
The American Dream.
I believe that the phrase "The American Dream" can evoke a wide range of emotions and interpretations. For some, it may spark controversy, while for others, it represents a beacon of hope. Personally, as an immigrant, I have grappled with the complex notion of the American Dream, striving to understand its significance in my life.
Much of my knowledge about America came from stories shared by my father, who painted vivid pictures of the opportunities available to someone like us. He often spoke of America as a land of promise, filled with individuals who dared to dream big and worked hard to achieve those dreams.
For me I am living the American Dream—the one my father would have loved for me to have. Today, I proudly stand as a self-published author. I speak English as a second language, and I have achieved far more than my father ever imagined for me.
