I’m increasingly interested in the idea of a competitive mindset.
I did not grow up in a competitive environment. My parents never reinforced a competitive mindset in me. Even though I grew up in a communist country, there were still competition systems in school and, to some extent, in the community, even if they weren’t openly discussed.
I bring up this topic because I’m increasingly interested in the idea of a competitive mindset, especially since I would love to own my own book coffee shop someday.
When I think about a competitive mindset, I think of offering a product or service that truly stands out. For example, I imagine my customers saying, “I don’t know how she makes that coffee, but it’s the best I’ve ever had,” or maybe the atmosphere in my book coffee shop would be so inviting and mystical that people of all ages would feel comfortable and welcome. That kind of competitive mindset, I believe, is necessary for a thriving economy.
Another area where I find the idea of competitiveness fascinating is personal growth. If you’ve had the chance to read my memoir (I’ll leave a link below), you’ll see how I grew up and the experiences that shaped me. Every time I think back to my younger self, I want to improve. Every mistake, every struggle—I see as an opportunity to get better.
Do you agree to disagree on the benefits of a competitive mindset?
